5 Health Benefits of Trampoline Exercise

People often underestimate how much exercise you get when jumping on a trampoline, yet it is scientifically proven that it provides a full body workout which many find easier than higher impact forms of fitness.

The g-forces that bouncing produces help to build muscle and burn fat quickly. This firms up every part of your body – including legs, thighs, arms, hips and stomach. It also has the added benefit of improving agility and balance!

A NASA study considers that trampolining is 68% more effective than a half hour jog. Their Journal of Applied Physiology also highlights that while driving similar oxygen uptake and heart rate, the magnitude of the biomechanical stimuli within your body is greater when jumping on a trampoline, rather than running.

Even a study by the American Council on Exercise (ACE) found that a 20-minute trampoline workout routine burns as many calories as running 10 km/h for the same amount of time.

5 Health Benefits of Trampoline Exercise

It may sound too good to be true, but the health benefits of jumping on a trampoline are real.

Here are five reasons why jumping on a trampoline is good exercise:

  1. Increased circulation in minutes!

  2. You get the benefits of a cardiovascular and musculoskeletal workout, but the mat soaks up over 80% of the impact on your joints (unlike road running!).

  3. Better core strength, due to trampolines providing a  full body workout

  4. Trampolining can increase lymph flow by up to 30 times, as you alternate between double gravitational force and weightlessness. This reinforces your immune system, and helps your body to transport nutrients and cleanse itself of waste

  5. Running for 30 minutes can burn anywhere from 200 - 300 calories. Plain, up-and-down bouncing on your trampoline burns similar numbers. However, if you incorporate other exercises into your trampoline bouncing, you could potentially burn double that number!

All these benefits come because trampolining is actually a vigorous aerobic workout. We do however recommend that for optimum health, a balanced mix of activities is always best based on your individual needs – we just strongly believe that some time on the trampoline should be an essential part of the mix!

Happy exercising!
